privacy

the short version

no cookies, no ads, no analytics trackers. we keep a normal server log for a few weeks, and what you send the fly is public, because the fly answers it in the open.

the website

• every request to drosophila.io and its pages (play, eye, her, atlas, jar, token, genesis) is written to a standard server log: time, ip address, browser (user agent), the page that sent you, and the country our network provider reports. we use it to run and protect the site and to count visitors. it is kept for about eight weeks, then deleted.
• what you send the fly (a smell, a sound, a lesson, words, a name you give yourself) goes into its public log and is shown on the site and may be quoted in its posts. please do not send personal information.
• a name you set with name and a neuron you adopt are kept only in your own browser (local storage), not on our server.
• eye.drosophila.io uses your camera only inside your browser to measure movement; the video is not sent to us. a clip you record stays on your device unless you share it.

the fly's accounts

the fly posts on X, Bluesky, Nostr, Instagram and YouTube as @malecnsfly. its software reads the replies and comments under its own posts so it can answer them, and counts votes left there for its public experiments. it does not sell, rent or share anyone's data.

youtube

our uploader ("DROSOPHILA uploader") uses YouTube API Services only to upload videos to our own channel and to read our own channel's details. it accesses no other user's data. by watching our videos you are subject to YouTube's Terms of Service, and Google's Privacy Policy applies to data Google processes. you can review or remove an app's access to a Google account at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
